Ann D. McGee (Bio)
Ann McGee was born in Chicago and is a graduate of Roosevelt University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 1970 and a Master’s degree. Ann taught for 12 years in the public school system in Dolton, Illinois. She moved to Nevada in 1984 where she met and married her husband William P. McGee, an aerospace executive, in 1995.
In 1985, Ann recognized the unfulfilled need in Southern Nevada communities for the coordination of aviation services that could provide low income children with the opportunity to get the best medical care available in America; children whose families could not afford the high costs of commercial airline tickets to see specialists and get second opinions far away from home.
Through her hard work and dedication, Miracle Flights for Kids grew from only a handful of flights each month for local kids in Southern Nevada to a nation-wide effort that flies sick children from all corners of the country. To date, her compassionate program has coordinated over 95,000 flights and over 52,000,000 miles of free access to specialized healthcare for America’s children. Her philanthropic, grassroots, community service program has become a mainstay of America’s healthcare system. Truly, Miracle Flights for Kids is saving lives every day.
Ann has spent the last three decades dedicated to improving access to healthcare for children that suffer from debilitating illnesses such as cancers, heart and lung diseases, leukemia, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida and so many other rare diseases. Many are babies – some only days old. But their stories are always the same-they need urgent medical care to give them a chance at life.
Today, Ann McGee believes that a healthy life is the birthright of every child in America and beyond. She has stood true to her belief that money should never stand in the way of children getting access to the best possible medical treatment, no matter how far away it may be. Her life’s work has evolved into encouraging parents to seek out specialists and get second or even third opinions that can determine the best treatment options for a child. By giving children access to the best and brightest doctors that specialize in their diseases, she adds time and to every day for our community’s most fragile kids.
Ann’s personal life includes travel to Africa, France, England, Italy, Switzerland, Mexico, and Hawaii. She has hot air ballooned over the Alps, ridden ostriches in South Africa, and taken cooking classes in Milan. She has two dogs and two cats that are her hearts passion.
Ann has received many prestigious awards including CNN Heroes Award, People Magazines Heroes Among Us award, Glamour Magazine’s “Nationwide Search For Outstanding Business Women”, the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award, Montel William’s “One Voice Award”, Martha Stewart’s “Dreamers Into Doers” award, the Freedom’s Foundation Medal of Excellence, Town & Country “Women Who Make a Difference”.
Ann is an extraordinary, everyday woman whose compassion and Leadership should be an encouragement to others.
