30 Years Ago This Week: Night of the Comet Had Its Day

If you’re looking for a holiday movie that won’t make you retch, Netflix Night of the Comet, the totally awesome sci-fi comedy that opened three decades ago this week. Though it’s set at Christmastime, it has less to do with Santa than post-apocalyptic zombies and an Uzi-wielding cheerleader who’s so spunky and snarktastic that Joss Whedon has singled her out as an inspiration for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Plus, Warhol superstar Mary Woronov delivers her last line with such sweet melancholy, it’s like a gift to those of us who get the blues when we see red and green.
