RECIPE/VIDEO: Melissa Gilbert’s famous fried chicken

“We ate a lot of fried chicken on Little House,” actress Melissa Gilbert writes in her new cookbook My Prairie Cookbook: Memories and Frontier Food from My Little House to Yours. And in one of those behind-the-scenes morsels that fans can only get from the stars, Gilbert admits that the Little House cast was served KFC!
But the fried chicken recipe in her book — General Gilbert’s California Fried Chicken with Pan Gravy (page 96) — is “the real deal.”
So we decided to have our Kroll Call kitchen expert, Lyndsay “The Kitchen Witch” Wells, put the recipe to the test. Can a recipe with only five ingredients (not counting the chicken) match up to eleven herbs and spices? Does Carrie Ingalls fall down the hill in every episode of Little House? (That’s a rhetorical “Yes.”)
Melissa discusses her cookbook, her time on Little House, and her return to primetime television on the October 17th edition of Kroll Call. To listen to the show, click here.
